The Old Town is the historic centre and the oldest part of the city as well as the cultural salon of the capital. During World War II the Old Town was destroyed in 90%. As a result of perfect reconstruction, the Old Town was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. If you plan on visiting Warsaw during UEFA EURO 2012 it is a must see!

The Old Town was established in 13th century as a duke’s gord and walled settlement.  Now it is a lively place for strolls, full of galleries, coffee shops and restaurants. This is a perfect place to meet friends and celebrate the successes of your favourite team.

The monument of Mermaid, which is in the capital’s coat of arms, is located in the middle of the Old Market Square. There are many more images of the symbol of the city in Warsaw. Two other monuments are deemed as equally important, located in popular tourist locations – on the bank of the Vistula, where, according to legend the mermaid came out of the water (by the Świętokrzyski bridge); the other one – on the Mickiewicz viaduct in ul. Karowa (close to the Old Town).
