A fascinating multi-media exhibition entitled “Roads to freedom” may be seen in the basement of the Polish National NSZZ “Solidarity” Committee building, in close proximity of the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers. The exhibition presents the vehement events of the battle for freedom and justice fought by Poles over the past three decades.
You will see the famous 21 tables with the postulates of the striking shipyard workers in August 1980, hand-written on wooden panels. By decree of UNESCO, the tables have been entered into onto the “World's Remembrance” list as a document of uncanny social and humanitarian value, with a great impact on the history of Europe. Other features to be seen at the exhibition include the remnants of historical walls: the Berlin Wall and the shipyard wall over which Lech Walesa jumped some years ago in order to reach the premises of the Gdansk Shipyard during the strike. They serve as tokens of the beginning of the road to freedom in this part of Europe.
Remember that when flying – no matter if the flight is inside or outside Poland – you must have an ID document to present to the airport staff. To enter the Schengen territory, citizens of third countries must have a valid travel document and visa if required.
